What's it for?

Why use a webtool for checking your eMails or doing a FTP-transfer when there are brilliant tools like Thunderbird or Krusader to do so? Two reasons:

You are not at home and all you've got is a PC and a browser

For several reasons you may not be allowed or able to install your usual client-software.

You are behind a firewall and just got the TCP-ports 80 and 443 open

Your usual client-software wouldn't be able to connect to a server (pop3 = port 110, smtp = port 25, ftp = ports 20/21, etc.). Webtools will connect the server for you.

web-ssh-client (uses Mindterm-Applet with a limited commercial use license)

Enables you to connect to a SSH-server. Assumes that you've got TCP-port 22 open (or your SSH-server listens to port 443 *wink*). You got to grant extended rights to the Applet (by accepting the signature of "openwebtools.org") - otherwise you will not be able to connect to other servers than www.openwebtools.org (Applet-sandbox).
web-vnc-client (uses VNC Free Edition Applet under GNU General Public License)

Enables you to connect to a VNC-server. Assumes that you've got the accordingly TCP-port open (default 5900) - or you tunnel this port through ssh (web-ssh-client could help you with this). You got to grant extended rights to the Applet (by accepting the signature of "openwebtools.org") - otherwise you will not be able to connect to other servers than www.openwebtools.org (Applet-sandbox).
